One of the major offshore sailing events in the Mediterranean: the Palermo-Montecarlo, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco and the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, returns after the success of the twentieth anniversary edition, confirming the official 2026 dates and the publication of the Notice of Race.
The twenty-first edition of the offshore race, which starts from the Gulf of Mondello and arrives in the Principality of Monaco along a free route with a single mandatory gate off Porto Cervo, will take place from August 18 to 23, 2026. Specifically, the skipper’s briefing is scheduled for August 17 at the Circolo della Vela Sicilia, the start day on August 18, and the awards ceremony and closing day on August 23 at the Yacht Club de Monaco, which, as always, offers a warm welcome to the participants.
The last two editions have been intense, with around fifty boats participating, and have seen the maxi Black Jack 100 set the record twice in a row. In 2024, she completed the race in just over 44 hours, three hours less than the previous record, and then in 2025, she beat herself to set the record at 38 hours, 53 minutes, and 16 seconds. This record could attract some of the Maxi boats in the Mediterranean, for which the race is the final round of the IMA (International Maxi Association) Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge.
The Palermo-Monte Carlo rejoins the 2026 Palermo-Monte Carlo race as one of the top events of the Italian Sailing Federation’s Italian Offshore Championship, offering the highest scoring coefficient for the ranking of the circuit that awards some Italian titles. The race is always abuzz with interest, and many boats and teams are planning it in the early months of the year. Among the first to announce their participation in the Palermo-Montecarlo 2026 is Nanni Lombardi and Giordano Cardini’s Farr 52 Lucifero, overall winner of the 2025 151 Miglia Cetilar Trophy. Two boats from Turkey are also among the very first to register (Bernard Arcas’s TP52 Arkas and Erol Algül’s Swan 42 Mercury), demonstrating the race’s international appeal, as well as Enrico Calvi’s timeless Dufour 34 Duffy.
With the publication of the Notice of Race, pre-registration for the Palermo-Montecarlo 2026 is now possible using the online form on the event website (https://www.palermo-montecarlo.it/iscriviti/).
