Palermo-Montecarlo is one of the most prestigious Mediterranean high sea regatta, pèart of many international circuits, including “Trofeo d’ALtura del Mediterraneo”, Off- Shore Italian Championship, “Trofeo Armatore dell’anno” and the championnat et trophees inshore et offshore mediterranee en equipages. IRC. In 2015 IMA- Mediterranean Maxi Offshore Challenge has been included in the circuit, a competition that gather the Rolex Middle Sea Race, the Volcano Race and the Giraglia Rolex Cup.
Created in 2005 by the Consul of the Principality of Monaco and the Sport Department of the District of Palermo to join two cities wich have historically been friends, this Challenge offers to all the sailing lovers a race rich of technical and panoramic contents.
Very famous ships started from the gorgeous “Golfo di Mondello”, through the Bocche di Bonifacio to the Monaco Bay, like Steinlager, the memorable winner ketch of the Whitbread, or the super maxi Esimit Europa 2 and Senso One and many more.
Olympic sailors, protagonists of the most important and difficult regattas and competitors of the America’s Cup, have given glory to this race, increasing the number and the value of the patecipants: Mauro Pelaschier, Pietro S’Alì, Francesco De Angelis, Gabriele Bruni, Flavio Favini, Lorenzo Bressani, Tommaso Chieffi, Alberto Bolzan, Jochen Schumann, Lionel Pean, Philippe Monet, Mitch Booth e Catherine Chaboud.
The race record belongs to Igor Simic maxi Esimit Europa 2 that beat the previous leader with its timing of 47 hours. 46 minutes and 48 seconds in 2015.
The Palermo- Montecarlo is preparing a new spectacular edition: the “XII” from the 21 to the 26 of August 2016!
